English Electric Lightning T. Mk5 XS 459
Have you ever wanted to have an icon in your collection ? This is possibly the last opportunity to acquire the famous Cold War interceptor in the UK.
We are happy to announce that we have been commissioned to find a new home for EE Lightning XS 459. This is a two-seat T. Mk5 version of this famous Cold War interceptor. XS459 first flew in December 1965 and served with 226 OCU, 29 Squadron, 56 Squadron, the LTF and latterly 5 Squadron. Disposed of in July 1988 and donated in 1994 to Fenland and West Norfolk Aviation Museum.
Lightning XS459 will be supplied with two ejection seats, ladder, a belly tank with a trolley. If required, two Rolls Royce Avon Turbo Jet engines can be supplied for static display use (Please note that these Avon's are not 301 series as fitted to the Lightning but similar 100 & 200 series)
The wings and fin unit have been cut and modified to facilitate the handling and movement of the aircraft. A specialised team is available to facilitate the handling of the move to her new home.
We have a breakdown of costs for moving and new paint work.
